Labor Day Update & Friday's Prospecting Trip....

Happy Labor Day to all my friends, family and great customers! Sadly, all trips are cancelled until next weekend and even that is going to be "iffy". This blow is going to be around for most of the week so its time to catch-up on some boat chores and gear management....heaven knows we lost plenty of jigs this past summer. Sticky bottom on all my drops and plenty of "ghost" pots are the major offenders...their appetite for jigs and terminal gear is endless.
Trip Updates & TS Hermine.....I do have a trip down on the calendar for this upcoming Saturday, Sept 10th with 3 spots still open so lets play it by ear this week and see how things play out with tropical depression "Hermine". As of this moment, here is the breakdown from the NWS....
SYNOPSIS FOR MASSACHUSETTS AND RHODE ISLAND COASTAL WATERS...HIGH PRES CENTERED OVER NORTHERN NEW ENGLAND WILL SLIDE EAST THROUGH MON. MEANWHILE...POST TROPICAL CYCLONE HERMINE LOCATED ABOUT 300 MILES SOUTH OF LONG ISLAND WILL MEANDER SLOWLY NORTH AND STRENGTHEN. IN BETWEEN THESE TWO SYSTEMS A NORTHEAST WIND WILL INCREASE TONIGHT AND MON ACROSS OUR WATERS AS WILL THE SEAS. HERMINES FORECAST TO REMAIN SPIRALING SOUTH OF THE WATERS THROUGH MIDWEEK BEFORE WEAKENING AND HEADING NORTHEAST. NWS TAUNTON WILL CLOSELY MONITOR TROPICAL STORM HERMINE.
So there it is folks...looks like its going to be a long week. Another factor I have to consider for next Saturday's trip will be the water clarity. These storms really stir things up on the bottom and typically it takes a few days for the water to clear-up enough to promote fishable conditions. I will have another update midweek with some great pics of this storm, standby...
Friday's prospecting trip...Corey and I took a personal day on Friday to go investigate some new drops in deeper water....the typical "sure bet" spots were a bust but we found a few nice piles in area's I never fished before...go figure? To me, all that matters is finding drops that are productive for my customers...that is why I burn fuel and spend time doing my homework...its all part of ensuring you have a good day on FV Codzilla!!! Plus who am I fooling, I love being out on the water and anytime I can get a day off to fish myself - you bet I'm all in. So yes, it is work...but it's also a blast! The tally for Friday was two nice market Cod for the box and a "Ton" of gently released Cod to fight another day...I was having so much fun I stopped counting after around 20...so yes I would call it another slam. So that's the Labor Day round-up...have a great holiday and be safe if you go down to the water. Check back midweek if your interested in securing a spot at the rail for next Saturday.
