Cod On The Rod Today...Next Trip Maybe Tues, July 31st...or Wed, Aug 1st
Today started a bit on the nautical side but once we got to the grounds we only had a very minor ground swell to deal with and it was "game-on" with the "Winter King" who is quickly becoming the "Summer King" in these parts...and who doesn't love to catch Cod in a tee shirt? And catch we did, despite the warm 73 degree water...a big improvement from last week and very steady action all day thanks to yesterdays full moon tide cycle...really makes such a difference. Oddly, we

Combining Sat & Sun To Make It A Sold Out Trip For This Sunday....
The two trips I had planned for this weekend had to be merged into one for this Sunday, July 29th. I finally have a full crew of 6, full tanks of diesel, extra jigs and hopefully "Fish Counter Bob" will come through with some fresh shell bait which is very hard to find at this time of year. He had at least 1/2 bushel at the boat this afternoon and he is going back for a few more tomorrow during low tide. Personally, I never dunk clams at this time of year (especially with

(2) Summer Inshore / Offshore Cod Trips On The Calendar For The Upcoming Weekend...Don't Miss Ou
I am planning to run two full day Cod trips this upcoming weekend...July 28th & 29th, weather permitting. We will be fishing on full moon tides and I have high expectations. We will throw lines at 5 AM (or earlier depending on my intel)...start on inshore Cod grounds with some shallow water jigging and work offshore....to the Gully, Coxes Ledge SW Corner and SE Corner...Coxes Mountain, Dukes Peaks and more...I will hit every significant drop in my GPS and probably cover ove

Decent Bite Today, Saturdays Trip Cancelled...Not Enough Interest
Decent bite today but very spread-out and sporadic. Covered a lot of ground but just couldn't get the bite going on the productive drops we have been fishing the past two weeks. Made a 9th inning move to some deeper water and it was the right choice. The fish turned on for one single 1/4 mile drift and all rods doubled-over. Several nice resident fish and a couple of real brutes who were very tough to move off the bottom. Overall a great day...perfect weather, some good

Looking To Get Back Out Fri 7/20 & Sat 7/21....Mixed Bag Trips
Looks like Mr. Weatherman is going to cooperate with us this Friday and Saturday...and I want to get off the dock for more Cod and Seabass - but especially Cod. Although this is a mixed bag trip, 90% of my effort will be to top off the coolers with the winter king. Last weeks trips were both epic and its my goal to have a repeat. New lift pump goes in on the Port engine tomorrow and I will have both sets of rods rigged and ready to go. Fresh squid strips will be on board

Cod Crush Today...July 14th
The only thing better than fishing for Cod in short-sleeves...is catching Cod in short-sleeves!!! And catch we did...it was lock and load fishing from the first drift to the last and we left them biting. Had to travel a bit east but it was well worth the big fuel burn...all green, fat fish...stuffed with sand-eels. It was really an epic trip and one that I will not soon forget. Next few days look a bit nautical so Bob and I will catch-up on some overdue maintenance. We c

Clobbered The Seabass & Cod Today....Room for 5 Tomorrow
Boy what a difference a week makes.....it was lock and load from start to finish today. We left the Seabass biting in the AM and fished for Cod on the midday tide change...and they met us with mouths wide open. 25+ market sized fish and couple good ones for sure. Bent rods all day and only a couple of doggies....which to me was an early Christmas present. Fishcounter Bob did a great job on deck and cut fish from the time we left the grounds until we came through the East
Changing Up Sat. 7/14...BI Mixed Bag
Not enough interest to make the run to Coxes so I am going to shelf that one for another day. My good friend Roger Simpson (who we all remember from the Frances Fleet) fished the ledge on Monday and it was very slow. Not sure what's going on out there...plenty of bait in the water, but the Cod have not showed for some reason? So for Saturday, I am thinking of running a mixed bag trip off Block Island. Maybe poke around with jigs in the AM to see what's around (other than

Upcoming Trips....Fri July 13th, One Spot Open. Sat July 14th...Coxes Cod, Six Spots To Fill, First
Despite having rebuilt my injectors last week, we still have a few issues to resolve but I will not let anything interfere with the perfect weather forecast for the upcoming weekend. I have five guys booked for this Friday, July 13th...inshore Seabass and Fluke trip, room for one more angler - $125pp all bait, ice and tackle included. Saturday July 14th I would like to make a run offshore to Coxes Ledge for Cod. It will be a 10-12+ hour trip throwing lines at 5 AM. I will

July 8th Report & Upcoming Trips...
Did another inshore trip on Sunday with John Cukro and his son Ian from NY. Two very experienced anglers who did a great job keeping swarms of dogs off the jigs and managed a bakers dozen of brown gold. All fish were on the smaller side but still great table fare. Regardless of some decent catching, we still had to contend with more dogs than I have seen in many years....and they are not just in one place...they are everywhere. On the late day tide change we moved inside
