Open Boat Trip Friday, Sept 2nd...
I need two more in order to make a trip this Friday, Sept 2nd. As of right now, it looks like we might have a small weather window to sneak in a trip so long as the wind abates in the PM per the latest forecast models I am looking at. There are two low pressure, tropical storms heading up the coast and with the perfect tides I am seeing for Friday it could be another repeat of Monday. Cod love to go on the chew prior to a big blow so call in sick and cancel all those appoin

"Grand-slam" Cod Fishing Continues...
At 4 AM skies were overcast with a steady 15 kt breeze out of the SW, the barometer was falling and humidity was on the high side...uncomfortable...just like the updated forecast. NOAA forecasted 2-4' seas on Sunday afternoon shifting now to a straight 4' building sea state with SCA's (small craft advisories) up for RI Sound, BI Sound up to 25 NM offshore...gulp. Not the way I wanted to start my day for sure, but taking all this into consideration, one element of the foreca

"Game On" For Monday Aug 29th Cod Trip
Monday's Cod Trip is on...still have one spot open so don't hesitate. Five guys max on this trip and I have a solid game plan in place. Joining in on the action will be two of the best Cod guys in the business...the infamous "Fish Counter Bob" from Maine and "Dr Tom /aka...Woody" from Ct. Fished with these guys in the past and learned a thing or two for sure. Even if the fish won't bite, these two will figure out a way to load the cooler. Weather looks good, perhaps a bi
FV Codzilla Profiled On Fishing United....
Wow...I am honored to see that one of the biggest fishing websites in USA, Fishing United, has profiled us in their "NY Bight Insider" report...This is big time exposure for my small time "Mom and Pop" operation...very exciting and I am without words!!! All I can say is this...The Good Lord above blesses hard work, risk and sacrifice...and that's what this business is all about...Thank you "Fishing United" and site owner Steve Cannizzo...aka "EC Newell Man" for profiling us

Solid Fishing Continues...
Took Zach from Thompson Ct. and his friends from Twin River out for a Cod trip yesterday, Wed Aug 24th. The weather was "perfect" with bright sunshine, low humidity and just a puff of wind out of the SW. At 5 AM the ocean was very relaxed with just a bump here and there on the ride out to the grounds...couldn't get better conditions. Based on local reports and my old faithful logbook, I had a very specific game plan for the day...but even with all the preparation and plann

Epic Summertime Cod Trip Yesterday...
Saturday's trip was about as good as it gets in the fishing business...perfect weather, flat calm seas, and a red-hot bite. Bob from Ludlow MA and Don from Narragansett put on a clinic and really displayed some serious angling skills that can only be acquired after years at the rail. Initially, the day started slow with very fast drift conditions and only a couple dozen "endangered" bow-wow's coming over the rail. Despite some very solid marks I decided to move a couple mile
Next Open Boat Trip This Sat. Aug 20th...
After a tough couple of weeks, Codzilla should be out of the "penalty box" tomorrow...going to fork over another $4k to keep things running...all I can say is that new toilet better come with a solid gold seat and automatic ass wiper...and my guys over at NYR are honest...can you imagine the cost of ANY other yard down here in the point? Redefines the term "assume the position"...regardless, I am ready to get things back in gear and start running trips, cannot wait in fact.
Sunday Aug 14th Update....Almost Ready
Roger and his team at NYR did an exceptional job last week and blazed through my long list very quickly to get Codzilla up and running for the upcoming week. The last item on the list is the new head and he will have that in by midweek. I am watching the weather for the upcoming week and would like to do an inshore trip to the Block this Friday or Saturday. If that goes well without any problems, I will put some summer Cod trips on the calendar...for next week. Hope every
Monday Aug 8th Update
After a tough twilight trip on Friday, I was finally able to get the boat over to the yard today for some long overdue maintenance. For the past two seasons I have used Narragansett Yacht Repair (NYR) and have nothing but good things to say about Roger Kroha and his crew. Completely professional, courteous, very knowledgeable and honest. I have been in the boating game for many, many years and there are very few yards that I trust...been handed some outrageous bills over t
